Oita Godo Newspaper publishing company has held the event on 28, the event was about our newspaper (fly high school - Oita Godo elementary newspaper), they did research on Usukine city's Usuki Takeyohi, then mixed and matched as a new creation of newspaper design of Usukine elementary school, (Jyuno Kubiko, who is the principal and has presented 345 students to participate in the respecting ceremony). In the same school, the presenting ceremony has held, and including making the new kind of newspaper from children, for 6th grade students there were around 47 students took participation.

The president of both places came to pay homage and said thank you to each other and this headline appears in everyone's mind as a commemoration panel, the process of making newspaper has collected and recorded in DVD for children on this event. 'The entire citizen in the city gave a really good collaboration and also promoted the purpose of this event as well'. The culture of the local city is paid attention in order to keep it as a memory of the city, and then they hope that it would be done as a larger group someday in the future.

Comment; I would like to say that it is a great idea to let the children work and do research on their ideas. To create the new production and propel the new generation to move forward for something, the adult or senior people must have done in a way that being a good model first, then give them a chance to think and take participate in what they come up with, so they could grow up to be a very strong person, be a good adult and also be the future of a nation

The speech that expressed by the girls named Eguchi, Ikenai, Fujita, Ujihara from Nakashin, the city in Eastern Kyushu (full with 500 students). The essay that all about the taxation's held as a commendation ceremony and the brilliant people who won the first price was Fujita Yumino (3rd year student); at the celebration there were 200 students from the same school that participated.  Akaminesusugi, Nakashin taxation office's president gave the invitation to Fujita to come to the work place to see how officers work on their job, how they work to manage the taxes from the citizen as a group, team work within this place.

For the 3 students left who also won the price as the following rank they all received the certificate of merit form this event, and they hold it with confidence and again that they were given a lecture by the president of the taxation office, to  propel them be more encouraged and move forward.

Comment; I really appreciate that the new generation have interest to show their talent to other's eyes, in my country we also have this kind of activity and being held as an event frequently, from the TV channel, radio, newspaper or even magazine to encourage young generation to write essay or make a short speech, the topic can be something about the political, economic, or culture. It creates them to concern about their country, what is happening now in the social and life style that someone might take it for granted.

The prefecture gallery classroom festival, for the elementary school student to learn this time was held as the 30th round in Nakashin city until on 30th November. Normally, there were lots of people who interested in gallery and visited the place. According to the aim of gallery studies for kids so there were around 414 people belong to their art products there.

The products are different and various styles notice from the way of painting such as colored painting, oil painting,   wooden colored painting, and so on. The natural scenery or landscape in their own city also painted and decorated as their art products which they can select what they would like to create freely, no limitation or requirement of painting for kids' imagination, or the painting of themselves portrait that they are doing some daily activities as their plan that time. This brush painting has been called 'Choru Choru Festival' which held in Kokugen prefecture and supported to be a career studies center; also the place where is the opened place for holding every kind of events and for selling  the manufactures for small children like kindergarten school.

Comment; It looks like a flea market for only kids that I think it is such a great idea, because this is the place that set up for the family time. The parents can hold their kids hands together and see the painting which full of imagination inside the products, so they can have sometimes to talk open mind with kids more since Japanese people have to work hard and no time for kids this is a good opportunity to express mom and dad's love to their children very well.

The event in Bungo Takada city is promoted by the specialty of the city named super giant pan has changed the costumes. According to a local network company in the city that has compensated and made it as a renewal outdoor. The giant pan has the diameter around 2.5 meters and 50 widen, the capacity is 1,000 liters with 1.5 ton weight. This special creative product can prepare the food at the same time it brings about better life plan and offers convenience to local people which has established in 1994. The people around 1,000 people near Bungo Takada city always come and prepare their meals together, year by year continuously everyone still using this preparing food machine more and more.

There is also the great number of loan from outside the governmental system. The public decrepitating has been obvious to be noticed as a specialty productive within the city; therefore, there are many organizations to give the charity to this project, too.  So the fix the form of painting, and collaborated together between companies, they said that 'recently, it become a big project for us that makes me feel glad. We want to support the citizens' life as a PR for them.'

Comment; This machine looks good and really big as its name 'Giant Pan', it would be great that if we can prepare meals without wasting the time in the kitchen and we can bring the food everywhere we want whenever we want to have it, it such a nice idea for the hurry lifestyle nowadays in Japan. I think they also get a large support by the citizens' feedback so that is the reason why they can develop this super machine to have more function, maybe in the future we might see this machine can do many things like become a TV, or public telephone at the same time that it is still a pan...

The specialty manufacturing group, Ebi shop, use the mixture name Mugi to crate their own brand named Usa. The shop located at Hachimanbon no ki. The Usa is also the name of the city workers group center, and they now doing this shop in order to respond the monitoring of the project of one city one specialty product. They have been carried this activity for long time particular the emphasis on the creation of new productivity of food, also have food consultant.  The office has 'the food samples studio' (for the branch in Tokyo) where the president group will manage all the taste and consumers' favored food there as an assumption.

They are attempting to wide spread the specialty food and brand of Oita as a proper activity 'Mio Club' members are the group of people who monitoring and being as participants. They have arranged the brand number 8 and number 4 which are different kind of products and now they aim to produce new kind of food, especially, the fried shrimp as a snack for everyone then develop it to be a proper food. 'Whatever it is, it is delicious, but how to make the consumers want to buy it that is the problem and become such an important topic' they said.

Comment; I've found many shops in Japan also get the encouragement from the promotion of one city one product and it has been monitoring more than years. The problem also shows that the consumers have many choices and if they don't want to buy then they have to change the way of selling, I think it's interesting that the worker group is trying so hard to create a new kind of food for everyone but I hope they won't forget how to sale it also, unless they will only loose the money because of creating new food but no one to buy it..

Moving towards the improvement of the scholastic ability of Japanese children, there have been a lot of independent measures which have been done by local governments, such as the establishment of cramming school by public management, the teaching of English starting from primary school level, the consistent guidance in primary and junior high school.

Besides, Monbukagakusho already changed the "Yutori Education", adding the school hours and contents in the school curriculum in primary and junior high school and they notified public about this in March 2008.

("Yutori Education is a Japanese Education policy which reduces the hours and the content of the curriculum in primary education. In recent years, the mass media in Japan have used this phrase to criticize drops in scholastic ability" Wikipedia)

However, because of parents' and guardians' concern that children's scholastic ability is dropping, children go to 'cram school' outside school hours, and in the past the proportion of students going to 'cram school' is one of every four students in public primary schools.

Comments: Yutori Education was proposed in order to achieve the "free from pressure" education. However, even though the purpose was good, apparently it was not successful since Japanese students are said to become less competitive internationally. Moreover, by establishing 'cram school', it actually defeats the entire purpose of Yutori Education since instead of being free from pressure, children are under pressure to catch up to understand the materials in order to pass examinations. The children go to 'cram school' after school, which means a prolonged version of school hours.

There are in total nine couples (husbands and wives) who always come together every year and to celebrate "Good Couples' Day" on 22nd November as a social gathering.

The event has been held since 1989 and this year is the 19th "Dai Ma Kai" gathering to promote understanding and to cultivate friendships among the married couples. The members of this association range from the couples who have married for thirty-eight years, to the couple who have married only for three years.

They usually have a good conversation while enjoying their bentos. Normally, the married couples will express their respect and gratitude towards each other in front of the other couples. The participants of this gathering said that on that day, this day is an important day when they can re-examine themselves.

A senior couples (60-years-old couples) said that "The secret of living a peaceful life is to take care of each other's health and to have conversation with each other".

Comments: It is heart-warming to know that this even had been initiated, which means people are actually aware and care to treasure their relationships with their spouses. However, today many young couples who are very busy and are overwhelmed with their hectic schedule often neglect the importance of relationships with people around them, especially their loved ones.

In Nobel Prize Award Ceremony this year, there were four Japanese who were awarded for Physics and Chemistry Prizes. On one side, there has been concern about children avoiding to study science. What can adults do to grow passion in science among children? In year 2002, we asked an awardee of Physics Nobel Prize, Professor Koshiba Masatoshi.

Professor Koshiba invested his money award to establish "Heisei Foundation for Basic Science" which aims to promote basic science. Targeting high school and university students, he is opening "classrooms to enjoy science" whereby lecture is conducted without dropping the quality level of the most advanced science. It is not "fun class" but "a class to enjoy". If one does not put any effort, one will not be able to enjoy the class. He emphasized that he "wants the young people to have enthusiasm and ambition".

"Like it is said in public, people do not feel that Japanese children are avoiding science" said Professor Koshiba. The issue that he is concerned about is "basically the potential of the children who like science and do well in science, is not being fully realized by the children themselves, and is not shown because of the their education and environment".

"In order to share and pass on the fun and excitement of science to students, the teachers themselves have to love science, and to have the feeling that science is enjoyable is indispensable" said the Professor. If a teacher thinks that "Because it is compulsory, so I teach", the students might not develop the love for science. One teacher in a primary school said that in the school whereby teachers teach all subjects, it is impossible to teach science and share the love of science at the same time.

So, what should we do? "Although the government said 'We do not have budget', we can do something about it by setting up an organization consisting of almamaters or associated graduate students within a set period of time to plead for the importance of teaching science while sharing the love of it as well" said Professor Koshiba

Comments: I agree that indeed it is important to have love and passion in whatever you are doing, whether it is to do what you love to do, or to love what you are doing, because it is a pity if you feel forced to do something. In the case of learning science, school plays a very important role to cultivate the passion of learning among children, and it is sad that today there are a lot of schools that might forget the essence of educating young minds and developing their interests, and instead just continue to do teaching and learning so the students can pass the examinations, and often the school pays less careful attention to whether the fun and excitement of learning something is passed on or not.

The Exhibition for the Young Artists in Oita

The Festival of the 10th Commemoration of the Art "The Exhibition for the Young Artists in Oita" (sponsored by Oita Godo Newspaper) was held from 5th to 9th in November 2008 in the Oita City Prefectural Art Assembly Hall.

The world of art in Oita Prefecture was developed according to different expressions. This particular exhibition kept the focus on those highly-motivated, passionate young artists in their twenties and thirties who do not usually hold their own exhibitions. These young artists' works and activities were being introduced in the exhibition.

There were eleven young artists. Their art works were expressed in various forms, such as paintings, 3-D arts, and other objects of art. They are all the artists who have a bright future. Currently, how modern young people can produce creative works while facing the period and the changes.

Comments: Art is free expression of creative spirits. If Oita Prefecture encourages the young artists to express themselves and provides the place for them to actualize themselves (like this exhibition), it would be attractive for foreigners to visit Oita Prefecture.

The Self-Governing Community and the Agreement

In order to resolve global warming, one of the solution is to speed up the implementation of "The Paid-Plastic Bag System". From January last year, Aeon started to implement this system in one of the shops in Kyoto, and they predicted to implement this system to approximately one-fourth of their 350 stores by the end of year 2008. They said that the plastic-bag reduction will increase to about 10,1300,0000 pieces in one year.

Uny also implemented this system in 98 stores, and Japan Consumer Co-operative Union (Co-op) applied this system to 64 of its affiliated stores.

In year 2007, there was an amendment in the policy regarding the recycle of packaging, and the plastic-bag reduction policy was enforced among the retailers. Each self-governing community which pays attention to the environmental issue, both the local people and the distributors tied an agreement to encourage customers to accept "The Paid-Plastic Bag System", putting effort to spread this system more.

Aeon coorperated with Kyoto and other areas to charge 5 yen per each plastic bag, and this resulted in 80% of the customers brought their own bag to the stores. Since the impact to both customers' inconvenience and sales was small, they could judge that the customers gained more understanding about the system, and then negotiated the system actively with the self-governing community. Under 16 prefectures including Hokkaido, JUSCO and MaxValu, one after another started to implement this system and spread it out.

The other prefectures, like Oita Prefecture and 16 self-governing communities are progressing towards the implementation of "The Paid-Plastic Bag System", and "it seems possible to accelerate and implement this systemuntil year 2012".

The Co-op, which initiated the "The Paid-Plastic Bag System", took the lead by reducing 3,8800,0000 plastic bags in 2007. Stores like Ito-Yokado and Izumiya had started to implement this system. According to the Ministry of Environment, the amount of plastic bags used per year is approximately 300,0000,0000 pieces. In big cities with many consumers like Tokyo and Osaka, the implementation of this system is a bit late, and this becomes an issue in the future.

Comments: It is good that major department stores had already recognized the need to reduce the use of plastic bags despite of some inconvenience that might be caused. However, there are still many stores in Tokyo and Osaka, and other prefectures including Oita Prefecture which still does not implement the system. Honestly, we do not really feel the urgency of not using plastic bags, because there has not been any campaign or actions regarding this matter. In the future, it might be good if the stores in Oita Prefecture would initiate this project.

Even though the season has already changed to winter, the unpredictable weather can be too warm to wear winter clothes at times, and this can be troublesome.

It might be frustrating having to take out the clothes that we have already folded up neatly and put into the drawer, and there are also some clothes that we tend to doubt whether to keep it in the drawer or to take it out.

How about sorting the clothes out?

Quickly, prepare one or two pieces of coats or jackets that can be put on thin clothes, cardigans, or long-sleeved shirts, favorite short-sleeved shirts and so on.

Preparing the clothes while anticipating the sudden change in temperature will prove to be useful throughout the year.

The Method of Differentiating Clothes Which Fade

When you are worried and unsure whether a particular fabric will fade, try to wet an undyed, white handkerchief, and lay it on top of the fabric's hem, then press them hard against the table. If the white handkerchief is stained with colour, we can conclude that this particular fabric will fade when being washed.

New Leather Shoes

Before wearing a new pair of leather shoes, it is better to wipe the inner part of the shoes with ethanol, because it will cause the shoes to become softer and more comfortable to wear.

Single-handedly Used First-Aid-Kit

When you injure your hand, the person who can help you with the first aid help might or might not be around. When nobody is around to help, you will have to rescue yourself. For that purpose, it would be better to put the first aid medicine into a box that can be opened or closed with one hand, so that you can do it yourself single-handedly.

Dining Set

Coffee, tea, and dining sets that are often used, it is better to rotate and use a different set than the normally used one. The reason is, if you use the same set over and over again excessively, the colour and patterns might fade away, and when you have to take out all your dining sets for a party, the fading will be far too obvious.

Preserved Food

In the cases when you are living alone, cooking can be troublesome. Also, when a disaster occurs, there is no time to cook delicious food. Therefore, preparing some ready-to-eat food to anticipate can be very helpful.

Comments:

Unlike Japan, in tropical countries there are only two seasons, dry and rainy seasons. And when people from those countries first came to Japan, they might have problems to adjust to the four seasonal climate. And especially here, when the weather is unpredictable at times, people are always confused whether to keep their summer clothes in the closet already because sometimes after a very cold day with snow, it can be a very sunny day. Therefore, I find this article helpful by providing tips to be flexible in adjusting to the changing weather.

Besides, there are more earthquakes in Japan compared to many other countries. Therefore, keeping preserved, ready-to-eat food can be a good preparation for emergency. The other tips are also useful and practical information which are applicable to our daily lives.

On 16th October, at Tokyo hall there was an international culture rage which held as the 12th round. Mr, Nakanishi hiromichi from Usutsubo,Saeki city with 62 years old is the winner of the superior price chosen one from Oita Godo newspaper. Mr. Nakanishi had owned business of the company named "project saiki100" and also been practiced in photograph activity as a PR. After the long period of working hard in the company he quit from the business and started to be interested in photograph completely until nowadays.

His art product that won the price, the story is about Japanese farming and agricultural life style at Aogawa city of Kushinada and Susa no omikoto, the couple was picking up rice together and it was explained by romantic plot with beautiful scenery. It's expressed the feeling and willingness through photograph very well. Mr. Nakanishi, he was participated and sent his 2nd art product since the last year, the name of the 2nd product is 'Sumitsuke Matsuri', he said at last that "Although I had confidence of my product, but I didn't think that I could won the superior price so, I'm really happy".

Comment: I'm so surprised that the age can do really good art, before I thought the age people only can do something boring staying at home, but here I'm totally wrong they can create gorgeous arts and show the value of their life which better than some teenagers in these days. Actually, the age people in my country they are doing some kind of creative works but there is not enough supporting from the government. In Japan, there're lots of accesses to reach the goal of life improvement for old people, and I hope that it will be continuing in the future.

The prefecture this year will be held as a 2nd time for the 'stop global warming' has been in practicing since last time. The earth temperature policy has established in Kyushu, Okinawa, Yamaguchi as a unification campaign link. Trying not to use your own car at home, can help to decrease CO2 gas or the objective of what should have be done to achieve decreasing, and  in order to give the knowledge to the citizen in cities the coordinated monitor from the working office had opened the application for volunteers until on 1st December. The local citizen has concerned about this activity in wide range of areas, they have held the motto of helping the earth to prevent global warming in their mind.

According to the office of environmental behavior planning department this year, on 4th June, the establishment of the first project activity no individual car's day, on that they there were lots of working offices around 113 companies to collaborate as a monitor and among those people they found that there are 3131 cars which are not being used at all.  There is the assumption to convert into the car that can be ran around 10 kilometers by 1 liter. There is 9.72 ton of CO2 which has been decreased. This 2nd time, November will be around 190 monitor office work places become as participant but now it is still in the process of making decision. And the small areas there is 'the places nearby which started to follow, stop using the cars as far as they can and also expected from a little group to become a bigger one then can collaborate together' this is what was presented as the last conversation about this project.

Comment:  Nowadays, global warming is such a thing that gives the definition of human culture in the modern world very well. To decrease individual car use is also one of the good resolutions that can see the result obviously, as it helps the decreasing amount of CO2 gas, the important element of being green house effect phenomenon. It is time for us to change our lifestyle and activites which disturb the environment.

At the police station, day time training had been droved by the power from the competition challenges of this year, the judo and kendo sport festival that held on 28th, at Oita National Gym. There were 17 police men and the police men from each part of the head offices estimated around 38 teams per station or around 260 people who joined as participants. Each police station at a small scale were gathered .then divided as one group (6 people per group), two groups (3 people per group), after that is the provisional election league.

The judging tournament will be held for this contest. For policewomen will be judged by individual method. The incandescent competition was continuing through the long period of time, and at the meeting place the people who are colleagues, coworkers, or even their families also came and put the cheering voices to encourage them.

Comment: Wowww...in my home country we don't have judo or kendo competition as Japan do but we have kick boxing which can be applied to use for protecting or fighting the bad guys very well. It is a good idea though, think of how can all the policemen gather in one place and be harmonized as team work to pass to another contest round, such a challenging situation for them, I think this could make them feel close and can be a nice strategy to tighten up the working and collaboration system inside the each police station around Oita prefecture area to be safe and potential safety life of Oita people also.

From Kumamoto to Oita with long distance to travel along the way, if compare with my time that is being full for everyone is such a practical use.  The farmers, agriculturalists and the method of food delivery business in the cities inspired me to take care of it and make an offering by develop the service called pleasure service. The fisheries business financial companies has begun and been through the consumer behavior since October, then at the meantime for SME companies, there is amount of separate finance for both of them supported by the government to develop the investment in those companies 'The Japanese policy of public investment' has been continuously practiced as a statistic method, in Oita prefecture branch office has set up recently.

In Oita prefecture's farming 'within each product companies in Kyushu areas is low, but the plan to increase the production value has already planed, the unique business will be wide spread to many small scales which there are large areas that we have been practicing' known as the analysis. 'The recognition of farmers super L fund, can feed the high demand to those farmers in a short period of time this idea will be supported as safety net fund for all kinds of finance will be provided, to the local areas farmers which thought to be the benefit for them, I want to continue this idea for those people'

Next year, in February, Osaka will be held between the farmers and ventilation buyers as a model prefecture 'aggrieved EXPO' at this the festival, there is a hope for this financial support to develop the output after this and has been ready to do.

Comment;  To help local people become so important in the world today, especially those farmers and agriculturalists who work so hard for us to have the fresh products which will be our food after the procedures. To raise up the financial support for them then will be the benefit for them and worth be practiced as soon as possible. So it means in the way of health value for everyone here that if the local farmers have good life standard proven, if they can grow more fresh products and manufactures therefore, we or the citizen would have a good health as an effect too.

The representative of Oita prefecture and Kumamoto prefecture has discussed in the meeting, in order to make the benefit to each other working sections which was held on 28th. The workers who have such a qualification of 'work worth doing' are what they are looking for. Amongst the citizen, between Oita's and Kumamoto's also feel that it is hard to achieve to be at the national scale, therefore, the time the exchange to tighten up the relation was held  for this reason.

From the board named Hanjyakuko Board, the cities benefit shooting is served to make it real. From Niigata city, Oita prefecture the road was dispatched, the people who got their occupation and the workers are preparing things up upon. The entrance ceremony of both working sections has closed by the cooperative signboard raised up by the representatives from both sides. After the visiting the workers in the city office and other offices all people thoughts are that 'the achievement is formed by main power from the coordination of the whole city' this is one of the mottoes they have.  Mr. Kuwahara Katsurai, the head manager from the head office, 55 years old, he said that from Niigata city and nearby areas have a good cooperation at the city's board from both prefectures, 'from the preparation there is the public performance in each area by doing the competition and this can be the comprehensive synthesis also.

The profits for the cities also have been planed and researched to get through the local people such as house wives group, and volunteers group within next year around Oita prefecture. At the entrance door of the working office, the decoration style has already set up, and presented by 'Mejiron' the monument to remind people about the prefecture relation in locality.

Comment; It is great to hear that everyone has a good collaboration, began from the bottom; local scale and sub- local scale then goes up to the higher scale, the idea to develop the cities and give all the benefit for the cities such a great thought. Nowadays, it is better to be interdependent as there are lots of people want to be on top, or want to have power without communicate or coordinate with anyone, if do like this we can develop even the small scale in a wide range. This project could be a good model for other cities to follow and no worries about the profit benefits too.
