Shitamura Won Nobel Prize in Chemistry

On October 8th at Stockholm, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the result of Nobel Prize in Chemistry of the year 2008. One of the winners was announced to be a group of three honor professors from Boston University who successfully discovered ‘Green Fluorescence Protein’ (GFP) helpful for the leap development of life science as a new potential tool to trace the expansion of cancerous cells.
One of the professors is Honor Professor Shitamura (80) who is now living in Massachusetts, the United States of America. “I am really surprised. This is very honorable for me” said Professor Shitamura. The prize is worth 140,000,000 yen going to be divided into equal 3 parts.
Regarding this year’s prize, there are totally 16 Japanese people. Three from Physics proclaimed on October 7th.
Comment: I cannot say anything than “Congratulations!!!” This is another proof to show that Asians (especially Japanese) are as potential as Westerners. Moreover, through their precious and vital discovery, the treatment of cancer tends to be more effective. People’s life will be saved. Thank you very much.
