Oita Godo Newspaper (morning edition on July 15, 2008)

At Mt. Takasaki Natural Zoo in Oita, both-arms-impaired female monkey, “Sayaka” (group b, 14 years old), gave birth to a male monkey baby on July 14. The scene when the baby has milk from his mother was warmly seen by a lot of guests.

In the early morning of July 14, an officer of the zoo found Sayaka holding her baby. After checking, they knew that the baby was male.

A native of Oita city, who kept taking photograph of Sayaka every week since she became pregnant, said that he feels really relieved to know that both Sayaka and her son are safe after the birth, and wish the baby grows up vigorously.

According to the information from the administration office of the zoo, a monkey baby needs to drink mother’s milk from the birth to one month later. After that, it can be able to eat wheat, corn, and sweet potato. In addition, the baby will be given a name soon.

Sayaka has both naturally impaired arms. In June, 2005, she was pregnant for the first time but unfortunately her baby die right after the birth. Again in June, 2006, Sayaka gave birth to a male baby named “Genki”. There was a topic talked that she was looking after her first son very well.

Comment:   Congratulations!! I saw a picture of Sayaka and the new born baby. He is so cute. Hope he can grow up cheerfully with good health.
