In order to assist the victim from severe earthquake at Sechuan city in
Robon, 21, 4th year student, the leader committee from China’s Shanton city told that it was a voluntary activity and also he wanted to collect the donation fast in one day and send to homeland (China). Riye, 18 and Rafankan, 19, 1st year student from Chontou of Sechuan asked their families and knew that they not only lacked of food and water but also, slept on a road and in a car. It was very anxious therefore, they sued to help them.
522 Chinese students enroll in APU. The students came from Sechuan and Chongching city are totally 45 students. They said they could contact and confirm all the members of their families’ safety. This committee plans to do the donation activity in front of JR Beppu Station as well on both 17th and 18th.
Comment: I was really shock as it was the huge natural catastrophe everyone did not know that whenever it occurred. It also destroyed asset immensely particularly human beings. It was the greatest loss of everybody. Not only Chinese government but also, every people should give a hand to many victims and carefully plan to prevent the next earthquake if it will happen.

In May last year, ‘Photochemical Smog Warning’ was announced for the first time at Tsukumi city. This year also, there is a worry of its cover from May to September. The prefectural Health Center gives a caution that “the photochemical smog can influence the human body. As soon as the warning is announced, everyone should avoid going outside and prepare any proper prevention.”
Once gases like nitrogen oxide in the atmosphere have a reaction with the ultraviolet rays, they become photochemical oxidants appearing in the form of smog we see. This is one of the air pollution. In a not windy day when the ultraviolet is strong, the photochemical oxidants make the sky become white, buildings look hazy hard to see, eyes and throats hurt, and asthmatic diseases can be activated.
In Oita prefecture, there are 19 warning centers for citizens’ safety. The warning is divided into 4 levels by considering from the density of photochemical oxidants in the air; 1-forcast, 2-be aware of, 3-alaming, 4-severe alarming.
Comment: I did not expect this bad result from the smog before. Anyway, after getting to know it, let’s take care of our health. Also, do not ignore to warn your families and friends!

A well known lunch box shop, “Hokka Hokka Tei” chain, has changed its former look to a new one called “Hotto Motto” since the 15th of May. All 75 franchises over Oita prefecture finished the revision to the new brand and open normally. However, what was changed?
At a branch in front of Maki station, Oita city, a big ‘Hokka Hokka Tei’ sign was replaced by a ‘Hotto Motto’ one at 2:15 pm. whereas the whole menu remains the same. Not only here, every branch removes only the old brand signs and make no change about the menu.
On the contrary, a big fan of Hokka Hokka Tei (male, 24 years old) said “Of course it looks new. As long as it can preserve the quality such as good taste and fast serve, there is no problem to make any change. ”
This can be said that ‘in customers’ view, the contents are absolutely more important than brand signs.’
Comment: True! I can not agree more the sign is not a problem. I guess one of the reason they changed the sign is because they wanted to make the shops look newer.

The first time “a black-color food” is talked about, people tend to make dubious faces due to these 2 reasons. First, it is hard to imagine specific appearances of goods. Second, there is almost nothing in a connection between the words “black” and “positive feeling.”
Nonetheless, several foods made of black pork, black rice, black sesame, etc. can be seen everywhere unsurprisingly. Most of them, moreover, seem well accepted by consumers. Does it mean black color is not as bad as it sounds?
Actually, using of black color is extremely between plus and minus image. Still, a number of people presuming that it is a next step of civilization seems rising.
In real life, “Black” is deemed relating to “fear”, “magic”, “frightful territory”, “darkness”, etc. It is often used in groups’ names in order to frighten others or send a message that “I am a strong and scary existence”, such as “Black Empire”. On the other hand in reality, black is a color that absorbs the powerful wavelength from the sun.
Nowadays, commodities and services which make use of black as a concept pursuing the civilization have widely spread in our daily lives. For example, you can see it at an onsen in Saga prefecture.
Comment: I just think that black color looks interesting and new when it became a new favor or new style of commodity/service. The idea of “fear” or “scary darkness” seem getting far away from the image of black color in today’s trade.

Harmony land met its 17th
anniversary on April 26th. Until April 25th, the total
number of visitors had reached 10 millions people. Thus, Harmony land held a special ceremony for
this occasion.
The lucky person was a child from
Himeyama kindergarten, Beppu. Kuguru and Kitty-chan came to welcome him at the
front gate with a present. The ceremony was lead by Kitty-chan and other lovely
characters in an especially big size. The little lucky boy said, without thinking
about the present, “really happy” with a big smile.
Harmony land was found in April 1991, and
opened in 1996. Since 1997, kitty games from around the country were brought here,
and the visitors were flowing to Harmony land. Harmony land is popular not only
among Kyushu, China, and the four main islands of Japan, but also attracts visitors
from foreign countries.
From April 26th, the
passport ticket fee has changed to 2800yen/1 person (both adult and children). Furthermore, during the Golden Week (May 3rd
-5th), the time is extended. Visitors are allowed to enjoy inside
the Harmony Land from 8am. - 9pm.

Personally, I have not been to
Harmony land yet, even though it is very near Beppu where I live now. After
reading this new, however, made me would like to go there and have a look. It
sounds really fun. Especially, if any of you is one of Kitty-chan and Sario
studio fans, it would be glad and happy to be surrounded by those lovely
characters, right? Also, you can have a good time playing many games.

After the harvesting season in Bungo Ono
city, Asachi town, Rhododendron flowers started to bloom at Jinkakuji Temple. Apparently,
we should have seen the flowers since around the end of last month. At the same
temple, some 400-year-old Rhododendron trees are found with light pink blooming
flowers. Besides, with the weather that is getting warmer day by day, the
flower buds also gradually blossom. With the beauty of the flowers, both the
worshiper and tourist come to the temple and have a look at them. Some people
would like to stroll in the temple area. Some would like to take a photo with
the flowers. They are all pleasant with the Rhododendron flowers.

At first, I thought I have not
seen the Rhododendron flower in the real life before. Hence, since I decided to
translate this topic, I went to find some pictures on google. Soon after I saw
a picture, I recognized it might be the same kind of flowers fully blooming in
front of the AP Houses!! I was always attracted
by them while sitting in a bus running past the dorm. Also, it is very surprising that the Rhododendron
trees could last this long until 400 years, and their flowers are still
blooming!

In May, there are so many kinds of dangerous rays from
the sun. Among those, the Ultraviolet A (UV-A) is the intensest. It can get
through window glasses reaching inside your skin. If you continue this ray-bathing,
deep dark spots, freckles, wrinkles, etc. will appear on your skin. Moreover, UV-B, which immediately gives you an
inflammatory after bathing, is also increasing in this season. These rays can
follow you wherever you go; under the shade, even when you turn your back
towards them. This is because there are scattered rays from the Sun. Therefore,
you may need an effective sunscreen to help!
“SPF” and “PA” are signs indicating the
efficiency of the sunscreen you use. “SPF”
means the protection against the UV-B. The higher it is, the more it is efficient.
In the case of showing “SPF more than 50”, there will be “50+” instead. For
everyday life, SPF 20 is enough. For outdoor soft sports is 30, whereas for a
strong one should be 50 or over.
“PA” is the [+] sign telling how much
it can protect you from the UV-A. The
more there are + sign, the stronger the protection is. For everyday life, PA + is
enough. For outdoor soft sports is ++, whereas for a strong one (marine sports
etc.) should be +++ or over.
And if you plan to get into a swimming pool
or the sea, do not forget “water-resistance” type and re-apply every 2-3 hours.
Follow these instructions, and then your skin will keep freshness, brightness,
and healthiness!!!
Comment: I am also a person who takes care
of the skin and hate the strong light. Hahaha However, it is so shameful that I
did not know the meanings of one of those signs before. I think many people are
like me. They surely know SPF, but do not really care the PA + sign. Nonetheless,
it is the real time to look after our skin from now on!!!
